Colour :- Diamonds are available from colourless to black and all shades in between, the colour affects their value. The scale ranges from D to Z and the price difference between the two adjacent colour grades is enormous. Many diamonds may appear colourless to the untrained eye but on closer inspection most will contain very slight traces of other colours. This can be an important aspect when judging the beauty of a diamond the whiter the diamond the more value. However the the most highly prized diamonds are referred to as 'Fancy Coloured' and range in colour from blue, pink, green, brown, yellow, orange red and even black. Natural colouration is due to a variety of factors , including chemical impurities within the stone. A 'D' grade stone resembles pure white ice with no hint of colour, while an 'M' grade stone is tinted and very often slightly yellow or champagne-coloured. Unlike white diamonds, there is no easy price guide with coloured diamonds as this is such a complicated area of study and one that is being constantly reassessed. The most important aspect of any stone is you must like the colour, you will be wearing it for many years to come.
